Camping for Coats
BENFITS COATS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
$20 MISTY RIVER BENEFIT CAMPOUT TO SUPPORT COATS FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Misty River Cabins and RV Resort is teaming up with the Blount County Fire

Department to raise money for the Coats for Our Community program.

Misty River is generously donating 40 of their 72 campsites for Saturday, Oct. 10, with

All proceeds benefiting the Blount County Fire Department Coats for Our Community

Program. The campsites, which normally cost between $40 and $45 to reserve, will cost

$20 per campsite on Oct.10. Each $20 donation will go to buy coats for the program.

Campers are also encouraged to bring new coats, or used coats that are in good condition, to the campground to donate to the program. Blount County Fire Department will have a fire truck on scene on the day of the event to remind campers of fire safety and to accept coats.

Anyone interested in taking advantage of the $20 campsite fee on Oct. 10 is encouraged to make reservations by calling 865-981-4300. Misty River will allow campsite rentals for those without reservations on the day of the event, as space permits.

Payment can be made for campsite rentals by cash or check only. Checks should be made payable to the Blount County Fire Department and should specify that it is for the Coats for Our Community program.

Misty River’s campsite is located at 5050 Old Walland Highway, about ˝ a mile from Blount County Fire Department’s Station 5 in Walland. Up to six people are allowed per campsite and pets are also allowed.

Coats for Our Community is a program dedicated to making sure that everyone in Blount County has a coat during the cold winter weather. Last year, firefighters put coats on more than 800 children and well over 1,000 adults. The coats for Our Community program is also conjoined with the Fire Safety program, which ensures all Blount County residents have a working fire alarm.

Those who wish to show their support in other ways can volunteer to assist for the Coats for Our Community program by calling (865) 983-2133. Donations can be sent to Blount County Fire Department, P.O. Box 4488, Maryville, TN, 37802-4488. New or used coats can also be donated and taken to any local fire station. More drop-off points will be announced at the time of the program’s official kick-off.

This project began in 1994 as a vision of Blount County Sheriff Officer John “JJ” James as way for Blount County residents to donate their new and used coats to pass on to others that are in need of a good warm coat.
Officer James approached Blount County Fire Chief Doug McClanahan, Captain Jerry Phillips and Lieutenant Johnny Leatherwood for help to set the project in motion. After much thought the name Coats for Our Community became the project name.
How can you help?

  • Donate new and used coats.
  • Support money (checks to Blount County Fire-Coats for Our Community)
  • Volunteer your time to help process and deliver coats.
